We’re excited to introduce a new feature for Solar Club™ members, RateSwitch™.
Some of our existing members may have already seen an email about it. But if you missed it, or if you’re considering switching your utilities to Camrose Energy and joining the Solar Club™, here’s a simple breakdown of how it works.
How Does RateSwitch™ Work?
Last year, we introduced Pre-Bill™, which lets you see how much electricity you’re consuming and producing before your bill is finalized. That means you can change your electricity rate and backdate it to the start of your billing period. No guessing. No trying to predict the weather. You can see the data first.
It gives you the benefit of hindsight and makes choosing the right Solar Club™ rate much easier.
RateSwitch™ builds on that idea and takes it one step further. It uses the same pre-bill information to automatically choose the best rate for you each billing period.
Here’s how it works.
If your pre-bill status shows that you are an EXPORTER, meaning your Alberta solar system is producing more electricity than you are using, you will be switched to our 33.5¢/kWh HI rate.
If your status shows that you are an IMPORTER, meaning you are using more electricity than you are producing, you will be switched to one of our 1-year or 3-year LO rates, depending on your Solar Club™ membership.
If your status does not change, your rate will not change.
If we do not receive a reading from your Wire Service Provider and your status shows “no data available,” your rate will also remain the same.

Manually Change Your Electricity Rate
Prefer to make the rate change yourself? You still can.
You can submit a change request through your Camrose Energy account at any time. This will temporarily override the automatic switch for the current billing period. After that, RateSwitch™ will resume as normal the following period.

Potential Risks
As with any automated system, there are some potential risks to be aware of.
Occasionally, the pre-bill data we receive from the Wire Service Provider can be incomplete. This may result in a non-optimal rate switch. Situations like cancels and rebills, missing data, or misaligned import and export read dates can affect the accuracy of the pre-bill status.
While this is not common, it is something to keep in mind when choosing to enrol.

How to Enrol in RateSwitch™
All customers currently on a Solar Club™ LO or HI rate are eligible to sign up for RateSwitch™, Alberta wide.
If you are on our Pre-Solar Rate, or if your site is not classified as a microgenerator, you are not yet eligible.
To sign up, simply fill out the Google form HERE. It only takes a few minutes. Please make sure to read the terms and conditions before agreeing.
Later this year, you will also have the option to toggle RateSwitch™ directly through your Camrose Energy online utilities account.
If you have questions about RateSwitch™, Solar Club™ rates, or switching your utilities anywhere in Alberta, our team is always happy to help.
