The Evolution of Camrose Energy’s Community Connections Program – Building Connection One Community at a Time.

by Cameron Domes

When we opened Camrose Energy 13 years ago, we knew we wanted to be more than just another utility company. Camrose isn’t just where we do business – it’s home. That’s why, from day one, we’ve made it a priority to give back to the community that helped build us. Through our Community Partner Program, we’ve been proud donate 10% of our profits every year to support local events, organizations, and initiatives that make a real difference. And honestly, we couldn’t have done it without you. Your support has helped us sponsor events and organizations that bring people together, create opportunities, and strengthen the fabric of our community.

Who We’ve Supported Over The Years

We’ve had the privilege of working with some incredible groups in Camrose and the surrounding area. Here are just a few of the organizations and events we’ve been proud to support:

  • The Big Block Party: This event is all about good old-fashioned small-town fun—games, delicious food, live music, and a chance for neighbors to catch up and connect.
  • Nordlys Film & Arts Festival: A celebration of indie films from across Canada and beyond, bringing stories and creativity to the heart of Camrose.
  • Ohaton’s Ladies Night: A night of laughter, live music, and prizes, giving women from nearby communities a chance to kick back and enjoy themselves.
  • The Camrose Solar Home Tour: This event shines a light on solar energy, offering hands-on learning for homeowners curious about making the switch to renewable energy.
  • Round Hill School Agri Program: A hands-on agricultural education program aimed at preserving Round Hill School while fostering a love for farming and sustainability.
  • The Open Door: An essential resource for at-risk and homeless youth in central Alberta, offering a safe space and the support they need to get back on their feet.
  • Centra-Cam Bowl-A-Thon: A fun, community-driven fundraiser that helps adults with disabilities gain independence and live fulfilling lives.
  • Camrose Women’s Shelter: Providing critical support to women and families facing domestic violence, offering them a safe place and the resources they need to rebuild.

Growing with Our Customers Across Alberta

While Camrose will always be our home base, we’ve grown over the years—and so has our customer base. More and more of you are joining us from communities all over Alberta, and we realized it was time for our Community Partner Program to grow with you.

In 2024, the Community Partner Program evolved into the Community Connections Program to reflect our broader community. Now, no matter where you live in Alberta, you can help support local events and organizations that matter to you. Whether it’s a youth program in your hometown, an environmental initiative in your region, or a community event that brings your neighbors together, we want to be part of it.

But don’t worry – 50% of our program’s funds are still dedicated to supporting the Camrose area. We’ll never forget the community that helped us get started. The other 50%? That’s now available for initiatives across Alberta, so we can help build stronger communities everywhere our customers call home.

Helping Beyond Camrose

Expanding our program has allowed us to support some amazing organizations outside of Camrose, like the Yamnuska Wolfdog Sanctuary in Cochrane. This unique organization raises awareness about responsible wolfdog ownership while providing care for wolf dogs who have been neglected or abandoned.

Making It Easier To Give Back

With the evolution of the program, we’ve simplified the process of giving back for our customers. Instead of scrolling through a long list of organizations, there are now two, simple options:

  • Community Connections: Support for local events, festivals, and programs that bring people together and strengthen communities.
  • Solar Synergy: Help organizations install solar panels to lower their operating costs and promote renewable energy.

It’s a small change, but it makes a big difference. You get to choose where your support goes—whether it’s toward building stronger communities or creating a greener future.

Because at the end of the day, we’re not just here to provide energy—we’re here to help build the communities we all call home.
